Local authorities have increased security measures in Leyte’s 3rd district, including Tabango, due to a recent spate of killings. Mayors in the region expressed their concerns over safety threats, prompting the deployment of additional police and military personnel. Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla emphasized the need for sustained law enforcement presence to prevent further violence. This initiative includes increased patrol operations and community engagement programs to strengthen ties between law enforcement and local communities.

Recent Shooting Incidents:

Incident 1: A village councilor was shot and killed in San Isidro in early February.

Incident 2: Two barangay officials were ambushed and killed in Tabango mid-February.

Incident 3: A local business owner in Villaba was shot dead in late February.

Incident 4: A shooting in Calubian resulted in the death of a community leader at the end of February.

Incident 5: Another shooting incident in Leyte town claimed the life of a village watchman in early March.

Incident 6: In mid-March, a former barangay captain in San Isidro was killed in a drive-by shooting.

Incident 7: A council member in Tabango was fatally shot outside his home in late March.

Incident 8: A shooting at a local market in Villaba resulted in the death of a barangay secretary in early April.

Incident 9: A barangay treasurer in Calubian was killed while attending a community event in mid-April.

Incident 10: In late April, a village chief in Leyte town was ambushed and killed on his way to a council meeting.

These incidents have led to increased security measures in the district. The Leyte Police Provincial Office deployed 389 additional personnel to enhance security, enforce laws, and engage with communities under the Police sa Barangay (PSB) program. This initiative aims to ensure sustained peace and security, with special protective measures for mayors under potential threat.
