Valenzuela Implements MMDA Number Coding Scheme on Major Roads

Valenzuela City will enforce the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) number coding scheme across several major roads starting September 3. This initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance road safety throughout the city, following the guidelines specified in the MMDA Memorandum Circular Number 17, Series of 2016. The scheme restricts vehicles from traveling on certain days based on the last digit of their license plates.

Major Roads Affected:

MacArthur Highway: 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM
Maysan – Paso De Blas – Bagbaguin Road
Karuhatan – Gen. T. De Leon Road
Gov. I. Santiago Road (Malinta to Tatawid)
Mindanao Avenue (Barangay Ugong)
East and West NLEX Service Road
T. Santiago Road
Sapang Bakaw (Lawang Bato) – Punturin – Bignay Road
For all roads except MacArthur Highway, the coding scheme will be enforced from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

This measure is part of a broader effort to improve traffic conditions across Metro Manila. By implementing the number coding scheme, Valenzuela aims to reduce the number of vehicles on the road during peak hours, thereby decreasing congestion and improving overall traffic flow. Residents are encouraged to plan their commutes accordingly and stay informed about the specific restrictions applicable to their routes.

The introduction of the number coding scheme has received mixed reactions from Valenzuela residents. While some appreciate the city’s efforts to manage traffic, others are concerned about the potential inconvenience it may cause. To address these concerns, the city government has launched an information campaign to ensure that residents are well-informed about the new rules and their implementation.

Valenzuela’s enforcement of the number coding scheme aligns with other traffic management strategies across Metro Manila. Other cities, including Pasig and Mandaluyong, have also undertaken measures to improve traffic conditions and enhance urban mobility. For instance, Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto recently announced a socialized housing project prioritizing residents living in danger zones, aiming to provide safer living conditions and reduce congestion in vulnerable areas. Meanwhile, Mandaluyong continues to enhance its crisis management knowledge and community initiatives under the leadership of Mayor Ben Abalos and Vice Mayor Menchie Abalos.

Valenzuela City’s adoption of the MMDA number coding scheme represents a significant step towards better traffic management and urban planning. By understanding the schedule and affected roads, residents can better navigate these changes and contribute to a smoother, more efficient traffic system in the city.
